Artist Profile: Flying Lotus

Spaced out, zoned out, disgusting, eclectic, deep, grungy, bright, fun, challenging, confusing, bold, electric music.  I can’t even begin to put Flying Lotus into a category… Why bother?

To categorize Flying Lotus kind of ruins the experience.  It starts to raise a certain level of expectation.  And although I do expect a lot out of musicians, my “expectations” of this artist are for me to be surprised (and see some missing body parts!) every time I pick up a new album or see a video.

No doubt, there is a common thread throughout each track, you just never know where you’ll end up, or how you’ll feel when it’s over.  For me to really enjoy it, I have to clear my head a bit and just listen or watch, and let it happen.  It’s a wild ride.

My favorites are:

This last one is CRAZY!!!  Not necessarily a favorite, but just had to mention Ready Err Not.  I’m won’t dare post the video.  Watch it HERE at your own risk.

And, fnally, there is no way I don’t speak on the masterpiece film An Oversimplification of Her Beauty by Terence Nash, scored by Flying Lotus, of course.  If you haven’t seen this movie, please check it out.
